Windows Home Server
Well I have a copy of this cool bit of kit and am just starting to work out hardware specs for a box I will build to run it on.
I’m picking it will be used for more than just it’s fundamental task of acting as a central backup location for all the files on our home network so I’m looking at slightly higher specs than Microsoft’s recommended set-up.
One reason is that there seems to be a huge number of add-ons for this product and I note Microsoft have just opened up a Windows Home Server Software Development Kit. for it.
I’m leaning towards a lower end Intel dual-core chip with 2 gig of DDR2 memory and a mobo with at least 4 x SATA ports on board.
From what I have read the key is to have a number of hdd installed to ensure mirrored backups of data spanned over the drives. The great thing about this product is it’s not hard to add extra drives or swap out old ones from the array.
I’ll keep you posted on the build / install as it progresses.
