Sydney – Day 1
Here I am typing this from the Internet lounge at the ALIA information online conference at the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre.
So far I have attended three sessions ranging from engaging teens online to looking at ways the national library of Australia is using Flickr and Google Maps mash-ups to enhance photo imagery uploaded to the Flickr commons effort.
A major disappointment has been the lack of wireless access for my laptop.
I was under the impression (incorrectly it seems) that I’d be able to use this from the venue.
There are two wifi signals about but only for the exhibitors so attendees miss out.
Apart from that grumble this is a good event and seems to be packed full of helpful info.
Several guys I have spoken to have come to blog about this event as I would like to as well and the only way we can do it is via the 25 odd laptops open to guests in the ‘lounge’.
When there are something like 900+ attendees at this gig it strikes me as a little weird that for an ‘information online’ conference only the exhibitors can get such wifi access.
I am understanding of the cost to the organisers but I do hope  next time they consider offering a pay as you go model for attendees.
