Please wait you are caller 100 in a priority queue

So Telecom announced it was launching a super fast DSL later this year called VDSL2 with speeds far superior to the ADSL2+ flavour only trumpeted a few months back.

I went looking for some idea of how long I would have to wait to get my hands on ADSL2+.

Luckily Telecom have a page that allows you to plug in your location and they will give you an approximation of when you can expect service.

‘Cool’ I thought ‘this is going to help’.

After all – if Telecom are promoting the next version on from DSL2 in Feb 09 my chances of getting the precursor tech to this should be good sooner than later right? Wrong.

After keying in my details I find out I’m waiting until around April 2011!

This is a marketing disaster.

I mean come on, why promo a service and then say ‘but you have to wait for 40 months to get it.’

I’m an early adopter of tech, would love to use this and embrace faster speeds last week.

The closest I can get to it is walking past a building on the University of Otago campus where the KAREN network is available to a select few.

Dear Telecom, if you are reading this, please come visit Dunedin sooner with your super fast broadband.
