A,B,C,D,E,F…G
Yes that’s the tried and true start to our alphabet and something (I bet) you have sung a billion times before if not to yourself, then to your young son or daughter.
The reason I begin with the alphabet is to highlight the importance of the letter D.
For D, you see, has appeared many times in my day today.
Dear reader let me explain.
Walking to work this morning I passed a local restaurant (no names here) that had a very prominent looking D slapped on its front door.
This D was issued by the local food inspectors who had failed the aforementioned shop on the grounds of its amazingly low standards of hygiene and food handling.
So in sum a red D in this case = ”stay away or risk certain upset tummies”.
Next up I pass a hairdresser also with two large red D’s hanging in the window.
“Could it be they were serving dodgy Chinese on the side” I ponder?
No, these D’s related to the iconic Dunedin ID Fashion show.
The show has become a major national event now garnering increasing international attention from the world’s media.
Now I know fashion is about being ‘innovative’ and looking ‘cool’ but someone really needs to point out to the organisers that their current iteration of their much touted branding looks like the FAIL mark allocated to the city’s underperforming eateries!
I wonder what the owner of the hairdresser would say if he knew his potential clientele walking past viewed him as a failed eatery.
