Thanks… and goodbye

This seems to be the theme song for a number of local businesses right now.

Walking back from my last marketing lecture at Otago University this semester I could not help but notice several shops that were either shut or had closing down signs up on their windows.

The global recession has come to town.

Today our local newspaper carried an item about a chap who stood by the side of the road with a sign seeking work – he found some by mid afternoon but had gone without employment since January to get to that desperate point in his life.

The interesting this for me was not that this had happened but that I had already seen it before about a two months ago reported in an Auckland newspaper.. that guy also found work among the tooting horns of passers by.

Life can understandably seem grim at times and that to me is where having ones family and friends around you to remind you that life ain’t all that bad is a real blessing.

And on that count I’m truly blessed.
