Doing the right thing
I found myself chatting with my youngest two children today about what you would do if you found some money in the street.
My son (8) said ‘if it’s coins I’d keep it but if it’s paper money I’d hand it in – I’ve never found any paper money’ he said with a sigh.
Later that afternoon we were down at our local school, the kids on their bikes madly riding around and enjoying the Sunday afternoon sunshine.
Just as we were about to leave my youngest daughter (6) found a $20 note in the playground – not less than 2 hours after we had had our chat about the ‘doing the right thing’.
With note tucked firmly in her pocket we set off for the local police station to hand in the money.
‘What’s your address dear?’ asked the obviously impressed police officer at the counter.
My daughter began to recite our phone number!
A few minutes later we left the station clutching an official ’finders reciept’ firmly in hand.
“If the money was not claimed in 3 months then the finder would be advised and entitled to it” we were told.
Christmas may come a few days early this December for my youngest girl – all because she ‘did the right thing’ today.
I am a proud father.
