What a day it’s been as all over New Zealand your average Kiwi got up out of bed, got dressed and wore the colours of red and black to show their sympathy and solidarity with Cantabrians.
I started my working day by filming a bunch of people making just that sort of statement in Dunedin at 9am on a slightly overcast Friday morning.
It was a great experience, everyone got in to the spirit of the moment – the signage they held up read ‘Kia kaha Christchurch’.
The thing that I noticed then, and indeed tonight (while watching the television coverage of similar activties all over the country) was the sheer volume to people ‘stepping up to the plate’ to be involved in events like this.
If success is truly measured by the number of people who care about you in your life, New Zealanders across the country made it loud and clear today that Canterbury / Christchurch is not forgotten.
