When did the penny drop?
Those conversations usually start along the lines of “it wasn’t until the end of the film when I realised Sam was a ghost’.
Pennies drop at the most unusual times don’t you think?
A sudden moment of clarity when everything lines up and if you had a bath tub and were the extroverted type you might leap up and yell eureka!
I find myself thinking about this topic tonight because I’m pondering what makes a person move from thinking about something to doing something about it?
I hypothesize that it takes a penny dropping moment to really get your a into g.
Case in point I went for a walk with mr 10 and miss 8 last weekend and we ended up walking past a cemetery. Mr 10 did not want to go in and look but miss 8 was curious and wanted to explore.
We walked a little way in and looked at some headstones – reading practice beyond Dr Seuss.
After clarifying that the coffins were beneath the grass and talking about people who were in their eighties when they died we happened upon a headstone of a women who died at 41
The idea of dying and not being around to see 8 and 10 turn into 30 and 40 really hit me as I held my daughters hand looking at the resting place of someone just a few years younger than I.
That’s when the penny dropped.
“you really need to take good cars of yourself Hayton”
Eat more, exercise less… errr… no that should be the other way around (I’m still reforming you see) but you get the idea.
OK so I’m the first to admit my penny dropping moment was hardly rocket science but it was nonetheless a time when clarity arrived and smacked me about the chops a bit.
Whist I’m going to gradually ease myself slowly into a healthier way of living I can honestly say that that weekend walk and perchance happening across the cemetery with my young kids in tow did leave a lasting impression on me.
Has the penny dropped recently for you?
