Snow Day

What a day.

As you may know New Zealand has been plunged in to a very cold weather event bringing with it snow and freezing temperatures to much of the country over the last 24 hours. More is expected over the next 2-3 days so we’re not out of the woods just yet.

Weather forecasters are calling it a ‘once in fifty years’ event. Certainly when you get snow falling in Wellington and New Plymouth etc. you can get a sense of the novelty factor this event brings to the party.

So today become a remote work day for me as the snowfall precluded my ability to get safely in to work by normal means.

Did I mention I love my job and the enabling properties of technology that lets me get on and work wheresoever I may be?

From the relative comfort of home I was able to maintain the Dunedin Public Libraries website and social media outlets ensuring up to date information about the libraries services and changing opening hours were publicised quickly and efficiently.

I also found time to engage in a snowball fight at lunchtime with my kids who were also stuck at home today :-)

Asides a national internet outage that impacted my Internet access for about 30 mins life’s been a little more fun and varied today than usual.

Wonder if it will snow tomorrow? Hope the forecasters are right.
