LIANZA Conference Day One
A short day with two keynote speakers.
The first (Martin Molloy) didn’t offer me too much in the way of helpful information other than libraries are struggling in the UK and they have a picture website full of historical imagery.
The latter ran alongside his talk on screen and was completely disconnected from the messages he gave.
It became laughable on Twitter as fellow tweeters at conference starting playing spot the animal bingo with images of elephants, cows etc. popping up as Molloy spoke about business relationships and political issues. Just weird.
The second keynote (Molly Raphael) whilst also sounding a negative note regarding the plight USA libraries face gave a more upbeat speech. My takeout from this session was to acquire and use library customer testimonials to help educate the budget decision makers of the value libraries hold i.e. don’t cut the budget line!
Yesterday was interesting because I was expecting more to be in attendance.
Perhaps it’s the size of the venue compared to the number enrolled, economic conditions or that it was a Sunday kickoff and more will come today?
In truth it’s probably a combo of all three.
Today feels like the first proper day – I have a scholarship to receive, a workshop to chair and another workshop to deliver a short social media presentation to.
Be sure to keep up with all the CoveritLive coverage as we track #lianza11 across the day.
