LIANZA Conference Day Four

It was a shorter day notable for the well received keynote speaker (Jenica Rogers) who offered upbeat and helpful advice to delegates looking for tools and systems to progress their ideas and projects within the profession.

After the doom and gloom tone set by other keynotes earlier – all agreed this was a welcome way to end the conference.

There were also one last concurrent series of breakout sessions to select from prior to the end of day four.

I found myself drawn to the session run by the Royal New Zealand Foundation for the Blind (RNZFB).

This was a well attended session that offered librarians insight in to the day to day activities of the RNZFB and opened my eyes to the opportunities we have to work with vision impaired customers in the new digital world in which we operate.

I think the thoughts raised in this breakout deserve a separate blog post so will save my feedback on this topic until then.

The day wrapped up with the usual panel discussion involving keynotes, the 2012 conference launch, some singing and speeches and oh…a short sharp earthquake.

It’s now some twenty four hours plus since the conference ended and that gives one time to reflect on the overall impression this years event had on me.

In sum I thought: the keynotes in the main were good, the venue a little to large for the number of delegates that came along, the vendors mostly happy to be there, the food rated 6.5/10 while the gold star award went to the person who secured the INELI delegates attendance at the conference – they were fab!

  • Thanks for sharing your conference impressions, Paul. Sounds like you have some ideas to bring back for DP to adapt.

  • I haven’t really had a chance to sit down and think about my impressions of conference properly but one thought that has been forming in my head has been the venue. Quite apart from the difficulty of having the vendors spread out so far between the MFC and the Town Hall, I actually have realised I don’t like the auditorium in the MFC – it feels rather oppressive. Not that we have much choice in venues I guess!
