About Paul Hayton
An active gen-x early adopter – and proud of it.
In 2007 Paul made the switch to the world of content management and web design after 16+ years working in the commercial broadcast radio industry.
His day job involves managing the electronic services of Dunedin Public Libraries however outside work hours you will find him:
- Refining his HTML / CSS skills
- Building / testing apps in the virtual sandpit
- Tweeting, Blogging etc.
Paul is keenly interested in technology and how it can act as an communications enabler.
Tech Background
For as long as he can remember Paul has always enjoyed working and playing in the areas of technology and communication.
He cut his IT teeth using computer gear (TRS-80,Apple IIe, ZX81, BBC Micro, Apple Macintosh) that started appearing in the New Zealand households of early adopters in the early 1980′s. By the 1990′s he was running a BBS (Agency) and gating Usenet newsgroups via UUCP packets to other interested BBS.
Paul started using the Internet well before the NCSA Mosaic browser when access came via a Unix shell account over slow dialup. Since then he never looked back and has moved on to building assorted pc’s, servers and websites while beta testing operating systems and early adopting many new web services & tools.
While working in New Zealand commercial radio during the 1990′s Paul was heavily involved in the prototyping and national implementation of presentation and audio production technology used by radio studios to this day.
Broadcasting Background
Radio has been in Paul’s blood for a long time. Starting with CB radio while still at high school he moved on to announcing gigs with student radio while studying for for his Bachelor of Arts at Massey University.
After graduating Paul embarked on a radio career with RNZ Commerical, TRN and MediaWorks that took him across New Zealand in roles spanning announcing, radio station & programme operations management.
Paul is a talented and experienced communicator who is just as comfortable in a studio as he is on stage in front of thousands. He has considerable on-air experience in surveyed radio markets, has hosted countless public events and voiced numerous commercials.
Currently Paul offers a professional corporate voice service and has been employed by clients spanning local television, retail outlets and private individuals alike.
