The history of the internet

Found this online today and enjoyed it.

Most info-graphics tend to be rather selective in terms of the highlights depicted.

This one is good and strikes the balance well IMHO.

Internet debate on TVNZ 7

Last nights debate was a fun event to watch and more importantly engage with.

The use of twitter, irc, Facebook provided viewers with multiple channels to take part in the show.

I can recall only 1-2 questions from the studio audience, such was the power of the net community in terms of the size of audience contribution made to the show.

My only grumble – too many topics attempted during too short a time slot – one hour was just not long enough.

Let’s hope we see another programme like this on our screens and PDA’s soon.

Social Media Revolution

I’ve seen this clip presented at two separate presentations that I’ve attended over the last week so I thought I’d share it with you.

Nothing really new about what’s covered in it for me but for those who do not understand or appreciate the shift going on it’s an eye opener.

Goals

I’ve been a bit slack updating this blog but then when I think about all the things I’ve been involved with these past few months the one thing I realised early on is how effective I’ve been with my time – even if it’s been at the expense of this blog.

A website development project I’ve been working on for the best part of two years will soon go live.

The most recent university paper I’ve been studying for my DipGrad Marketing Management I achieved an A+ pass for.

And I’m again involved with some beta testing for Microsoft which has been a lot of fun.

All in all it’s been a good few months – perhaps I’ll have a bit more time for this blog or by saying that am I tempting fate?

Long Weekends

I know what I should be doing and what I’d rather be doing.

I’m discovering that the key to a successful long weekend appears to be juggling both while simultaneously trying to do everything for everyone else in your family at the same time.

If long weekends (i.e. a weekend plus a public holiday tacked on the end) are meant to be restful – then someone did not read the manual correctly.

Please sir – I’d rather take a regular weekend with a side order of grocery shopping in preference to this!

Yours sincerely,

Paul.

Rally of Otago

It’s been a busy weekend as once again I have been involved with the annual rally of Otago.

The rally has been held a few weeks earlier this year and I’ve noticed a lack of frost about when walking into HQ early morning.

It’s always a popular event and my role involves helping with the radio communications between the various rally stages and the officials seeking timing info from each competing car.

Comms work is fun. You gain a large insight into how a motorsport event is run.

I may not be in a fast moving car competing on the race track but I’m certainly in the drivers seat when it comes to knowing who’s in the lead!

Star Wars vs. Star Trek

This is cool.

Check out this great clip from Bill Parker using special effects software available to the ‘home enthusiast’.
